On September 7th, 2024, First Responders Benefit held the “Golf for the Badge” fundraiser at Dayton Valley Country Club. The event featured 52 golfers and successfully raised nearly $7,300. Proceeds from the tournament will support the Lyon County Sheriffs Office K9 Unit and the Shop with the Sheriff Program, contributing to crucial community and law enforcement initiatives.
The "Shop with a Sheriff" program offers numerous benefits to both the community and the participating law enforcement officers. Here are some key advantages:
1. Support for Families in Need: The program provides underprivileged children and their families with a special shopping experience, ensuring they have gifts and essentials during the holiday season or other significant times of the year.
2. Strengthened Community Relationships: By participating in the shopping experience, law enforcement officers build positive relationships with community members, fostering trust and collaboration between the police and the public.
3. Positive Role Models: The program gives children the chance to interact with police officers in a friendly, non-enforcement context, which can positively influence their perceptions of law enforcement and provide them with positive role models.
A K9 Unit offers a range of benefits to the community, enhancing public safety and strengthening the bond between law enforcement and residents. Here are some key community benefits:
Enhanced Public Safety: K9 units are highly effective in detecting drugs, explosives, and other illegal substances. Their presence can deter criminal activity and assist in uncovering illicit operations, contributing to overall public safety.
Support for Officer Safety: K9s can help protect officers by providing an additional layer of safety during high-risk situations. Their presence can help diffuse potentially dangerous encounters and assist in managing threats.
Crime Prevention: The visibility of K9 units in the community acts as a deterrent to potential criminals. Knowing that a K9 unit is active in the area can discourage illegal activities and enhance community security.
Due to the overwhelming funding required to effectively operate the K9 Unit, First Responders Benefit has awarded multiple grants and assisted with the program's various fundraisers.
